 Walter Ballantyre 
who gave more than fifty years of distinguished voluntary service to the Scottish Youth Hostels Association (SYHA) and who between 1935 and 1988, who also donated over 70 valuable hostels, castles and buildings to the non profit Scottish Youth Hostel Association who’s aims are to provide young people of limited means the opportunity of enjoying the Scottish countryside. Now Walter Ballantyre has died in 1988 and is not around to oversee the SYHA, those in control of these assets are selling them to developers to provide multi millions in profits to the developers, leaving the SYHA without the historic buildings that were to provide affordable accomodation to young people of limited means.
